Place the chicken in a saucepan with the water, whole onion and spices (garlic, cardamom, cloves, coriander, aniseed and pepper), which have been wrapped in gauze and tied with a string.
Cook for around 20 minutes.
In another saucepan, fry the sliced onion in the hot oil with two bay leaves. Add the chicken pieces. Cook until the chicken is lightly browned, then add the rice and water (I prefer to add the cooking juices, as well as a knorr chicken and add the small packet of spices. Add the chilli powder.
Cook until the rice is cooked.
